Shed Stuff...

My shed smells of wood & soil and has a half-light inside that suits me just fine.
I have a piece of Bristol blue glass hanging in one window; lanterns, candles and bunting, bunches of heather and willow.
A tiny transistor radio, books of notes and cuttings and of course my trusty trowel and other tools.

As well as being the place I sow seeds and pot on seedlings - a mini nursery for younglings, it is often a place to park myself,  sip tea, and just look and listen.  We all need to step off from time to time for some mind maintenance.

As the late great Bon Scott sang: "Doing nothing means a lot to me."

My Lovely Shed

Oh lovely shed!
Oh lovely shed!
You come second only
to my bed

There are sheds for gardening, escaping, pottering, and sheds for composing symphonies. Gustav Mahler had several during his time, his first shed was by a lake and his last hidden in the woods.  A man after my own heart.  Greygirl, as you will discover, is a little in love with Mahler, his music having stalked her for years.
Mahler grew up in a place of dense forests, blue lakes and ruined castles - magical haunts for a solitary boy.  He was hearing bird calls punctuated with in-blown wafts of cowbells, coach horns, tavern bands and singing.

In his room in Hamburg as a young man there were no pictures of family, only a reproduction of Albrecht Durer's Melancholy, and a photograph of St Anthony of Padua Preaching to the Fish.

The Toblach shed

The shed in the woods of Toblach housed his favoured upright piano, but when the weather was wet and cold he wasn't able to work in it.  His wife Alma referred to Mahler's shed as his earth closet, ie) toilet.  Possibly owing to the fact that she was not allowed to go there, only he knew the way through the woods.

Shed of Heaven

I've been shed-snooping, having been awake since 4.30am and needing to find something to do other than drink coffee...anyway, I found an interesting selection.  Some of which, it has to be said, go way beyond the boundaries of shed-ness.  In my humble opinion.
